How to use icon templates

Build reusable icon sets your team can drop onto any journey map, with consistent direction, size, and styling.

An icon template is a named set of icons you build once in account settings and reuse on icon cards across every workspace journey map. Set the icons, their colors, and how they display, and the template is ready for anyone in the account to pick on a map.

Prerequisites

You need Admin access at the account level. Icon templates are managed in Account settings, which only Account admins can open.

Icon templates are available on the Governance plan.

Open Account settings from the account name at the top of the left sidebar, click the Customization tab, then choose Icons in the left panel. The Customize icons page lists each template with an Edit link and a delete icon.

How to create or edit an icon template

Click + Add icon template to create one, or Edit on an existing row to change it. Both open the same template editor, where you set the template's display options and the icons it holds.

Open the template editor

Click + Add icon template to start a new template, or Edit on a template's row to change an existing one. The editor opens with the template's settings on the left and its icons on the right.

Set the name and display options

Type a name in Name. Then set how the icons render on a card:

• Direction - Lay the icons out vertically or horizontally.

• Background - Show each icon on a Transparent or White background.

• Size - Pick Small, Medium, or Large.

• Interactive - Set Yes to let editors toggle icons on and off on the card, or No to keep them fixed.

Add the icons

Under Default template items, click + Add icon for each icon you want. For each row, click the swatch to choose the icon and a color, type a name, and optionally add a link. A template holds up to 15 icons. Drag a row by its handle to reorder, or use the delete icon to remove one.

Save the template

Click Save. The template appears on the Customize icons page, ready for anyone in the account to pick on an icon card.

Tip: Edits apply to new icon cards only

Changing a template updates the icons offered to icon cards added after the change. Icon cards already on a map keep the icons they were created with, so existing maps don't shift when you edit a template.
