A step-by-step guide to migrating content from Smaply Classic to the new Smaply

Step-by-step guide to migrate

A step-by-step guide on how to move Smaply classic projects to the new Smaply team workspace.

Quick note about the migration

Each Smaply Classic Project needs to be migrated to its own Workspace within the new Smaply account

Step 1: Login & navigate to your Project

Login to your Smaply Classic account and from the account home page, navigate to the Project you wish to import to the new Smaply.

Highly recommended: Clean up content before exporting Before you export content from Smaply Classic, we recommend that you do a review your Smaply content. Delete unused or out of date journey maps and personas. Review the maps you wish to keep and ensure the content is relevant.

Step 2: Export content from Smaply Classic

In the Project you wish to export, click the "EXPORT PROJECT" button in the top right of the navigation.

This opens the Export Manager. Click the blue "Export Project as .SMAPLY file" button to download your migration file.

When the file export is finished, you will see a notification. Click the 'Project export' button to download the file to your device.

Step 3: Import to the new Smaply

In the new Smaply, login or create an account.

Open your default Workspace and click Settings

In your Workspace settings, select "Import project from classic".

Click "+ Import project" and upload your .SMAPLY file. This might take 5-10 minutes. We recommend to not navigate away from this page until the 'Import status' is shown as "COMPLETED".

Step 4: Check content

Double check your Journey Maps and Personas has been correctly transferred. Navigate to the Journey Maps menu in the Workspace. Open a journey map by clicking on its name.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

While the majority of your journey map content will transfer to the new Smaply, some Smaply Classic content, such as File lanes, can't be imported.

In the new Smaply, files can be added via the "Embed" card, allowing you to link to files hosted online such as Office365, Google docs or Sharepoint. For journey maps with File lanes, manually transfer these to the new Smaply using Embed cards.

Step 5: Bulk edit (optional)

In the journey map editor, you can quickly and easily format your content using bulk actions. To perform bulk actions, you can:

  1. Hold "Shift" and select individual cards,

  2. Press "CMD / Ctrl + A" to select all cards, or,

  3. Use the three dot lane menu to select all cards in a lane to edit them in bulk

Bulk editing the same type of card will show more formatting options. There are some actions such as tagging or adding personas that can be performed across different card types simultaneously.

Learn more about bulk card actions here.
